HOW TO CARE FOR GLASS, MIRRORS AND ACRYLIC

As beautiful as glass is, it’s also fragile and sensitive. In the right conditions, glass can endure for hundreds of years, whether it’s clear glass, smoked glass, black glass, or mirror glass.

It is always a good idea to take precautions as damage to the surface of glass can easily take away from its beauty. Never place rough or sharp bases on glass surfaces. Use coasters and felt pads to prevent scratches and water rings on glass tabletops.

Plain hot water makes for the best everyday cleaner for glass surfaces and mirrors. Use suitable glass cleaning products and a microfiber cloth for cleaning. If you use a chemical cleaner, be careful not to spill it on any of the surrounding finishes. Never use abrasive materials as they can scratch the surface.

First of all, remove any dust and other non-sticky spills. Next, use a spray bottle to spray water onto the surface. Plain hot water works best as it leaves no streaks. Wipe glass tabletops down with a microfiber cloth to get rid of dirt and stains. Use undiluted vinegar to remove stubborn stains or clean spills. Then use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to remove the vinegar. Finally, use a piece of crumpled newspaper to add a touch of sparkle to your table. This will remove fluff and make the glass shine.

After thoroughly cleaning the glass surface or mirror, follow up with the intensive cleaning once per week and use regular water for the rest of the week.

Avoid using paper towels for cleaning mirrors and mirror glass surfaces as these can leave unattractive lint behind. Never use abrasives or cleaners containing ammonia or acid as these products can destroy the silver frames and edges of your mirror.

Although acrylic looks like glass, it is less breakable and about half the weight. Special care must be taken when cleaning acrylic products. Avoid commercial household cleaners as the chemicals in these products can dull and scratch the acrylic. The best way to care for your acrylic furniture is to clean with lukewarm water and some liquid soap, rinse, and then dry. Always use a soft cloth so you don't scratch the acrylic surface.
